Basket cheese is considered a traditional Easter cheese. It gets its name for the basket it is formed in. When removed from the basket, the indentations left on this cheese resembles an Easter basket.
Serving suggestion: drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of sea salt and cracker pepper and serve with fresh Italian bread. Or for a sweet version, add on top of some mini toast and top with your favorite jam. You can also serve it sliced along with tomatoes like a caprese salad.
It’s a classic ingredient in "Easter Pies" (pizza rustica), a pie of Italian meats and cheeses!
